GENERAL MANAGER Joe Thomas of the Baltimore Colts admitted that he tried to trade defensive end Bubba Smith for Houston's No. 1 draft pick, but criticized Oilers' owner Bud Adams for revealing the offer.

"That's very bad ethics," Thomas said of the published comments by Adams. "If every club started revealing who was discussed in trades, there wouldn't be enough space in the papers to name all the players."
