On a seemingly ordinary day, Joe Turner (Robert Redford), a quiet CIA codebreaker, walks into his workplace and finds that all of his coworkers have been murdered. Horrified, Joe flees the scene and tries to tell his supervisors about the tragedy. Unfortunately, he soon learns that CIA higher-ups were involved in the murders. With no one to trust, and a merciless hit man (Max von Sydow) close on his tail, Joe must somehow survive long enough to figure out why his own agency wants him dead.

Leaburn O Before we had Jason Statham running around and killing 700 people in five minutes, we had actually properly crafted secret agent thrillers like this, with slightly more modest levels of violence. Damn I wish modern thrillers had a bit more intelligence to them. This is well worth a watch. A spy thriller with more of a brain. Watched on SKY cinema. That is the good news if you want to see 70s cars, dorky mens clothing from the 70s, portrayals of "young people" in the 70s... and it is pretty cool to see the Twin Towers multiple times during the movie- since the media seem to have decided that Americans aren't able to handle the Sept 11 attacks and therefore images of the Twin Towers have been cleansed from our culture. The script sucks. The gist of the plot, something about the US government is doing a shady oil deal, is a most confused and hard to understand thing. The vague description of what all the cloak and dagger has been about for 2 hours is given at the very end. The film has Faye Dunaway and Robert Redford in it, and a few other well known B actors. Other than seeing those great actors, the movie is such a stupid, boring, thing. Don't throw away 2 hours of your life on it.
