How reliable is eSIM?
An eSIM card cannot be stolen without stealing the phone, whereas removable SIM cards are sometimes stolen, and used in port out scams. That's when identity thieves fraudulently swap stolen SIM cards into different phones to gain access to the victim's calls and text messages.
Are there any privacy concerns with eSIMs? eSIM providers require you to use their app to activate and use the service, which means you can be tracked. Apple users should turn on the “ask app not to track” setting to avoid this. I'm sure Android devices have a similar setting.
eSIM is more secure than a physical SIM because it can't be removed if your iPhone is lost or stolen. With eSIM, you don't need to obtain, carry and swap physical SIM cards, which can also be lost, or wait for them to arrive in the post before you leave.
Another challenge is the security of eSIM profile provisioning. End users can download a profile directly onto their devices. This could be targeted by attackers, who could push a new profile onto a device and take it over.
FAQ eSIM Pros and Cons. Is eSIM better than physical SIM card? eSIM is better than a physical SIM card because it has so many more benefits: – eSIM is small: This not only allows extra room for other components, or perhaps a larger battery, it also enables manufacturers to rejig the internal layout of their devices.
The Cons of eSIMs
eSIMs aren't available for older phones: Since they're relatively new, eSIMs aren't compatible with older phone models. It's harder to transfer data: Instead of popping the card out of a damaged phone, you have to download your data from the cloud to get your contacts, messages, and other media back.
Network Speed: The primary determinant of mobile internet speed is the network itself. The speed of the network depends on factors such as your location, carrier, available spectrum, and network congestion. Neither eSIM nor physical SIM has a direct impact on network speed.
eSIMs do not use more battery than physical SIMs, so that shouldn't be a concern for your decision to use an eSIM to stay connected during your travels.
An eSIM (embedded SIM) does not always require the internet, but it does require an internet connection to initially activate and set up the device on a network. Once the eSIM is activated and the device is set up on a network, it can function without an internet connection, just like a traditional SIM card.
Note – We do recommend that you install your Ubigi eSIM on your device before you travel. To download the profile on your device, internet connectivity is required. (For Android devices users, you can only install new eSIM profiles while connected in Wi-Fi).
Can hackers hack eSIM?
eSIMs offer some security advantages over traditional SIM cards, as they are not susceptible to physical theft or unauthorized removal. However, eSIMs can still be targeted by software-based attacks, such as malware or remote exploitation.
From a technical perspective, there is no inherent advantage or disadvantage when it comes to signal strength between eSIM and traditional SIM cards.
Myth 1: eSIMs are more trackable than physical SIM cards.
eSIMs and physical SIM cards share similar characteristics when it comes to tracking. Both can be tracked by mobile network operators for legitimate purposes, such as providing services, maintaining network integrity, and complying with legal requirements.
To convert your eSIM to physical sim, you need to first deactivate your eSIM permanently. This will delete all your network details from the existing eSIM. You can't complete the process online or by yourself. Therefore, find the nearest store of your network provider.
Since eSIMs are embedded directly into the device's hardware, they are less vulnerable to theft and loss. You can store way more user data, such as contact information and text messages, on eSIMs, thanks to their larger storage capacity.
5G supercharges the eSIM with greater speed and more coverage. The 5G eSIM is such a breakthrough product because it combines the pioneering technology of eSIM with the speed and efficiency of 5G to offer users seamless connectivity and complete control of when, where, and how they connect.
Your internet speed is determined by network congestion, prioritization, and network carrier coverage. If your eSIM's APN was manually configured and is not appropriately configured, it may look that your internet is slow. In this situation, the real issue is the erroneous installation of your eSIM.
Yes, an eSIM (embedded SIM) can have a phone number associated with it, just like a traditional physical SIM card.
When your phone is back from repair, you can simply reinstall your eSIM profile on your device by flashing the QR code you used for the first installation. If that doesn't work, you just need to contact your eSIM provider to get an updated QR code so that you can access again your services / account.
eSIMs let you easily add an international plan to your device that starts working the moment you arrive in another country, giving you hassle-free flexibility. When it comes to the Un-Carrier (that's us!), perhaps the biggest benefit of using eSIM is that you can try our network FREE for three months before you switch.
Should I remove SIM card after eSIM?
FAQ SIM Card after installing eSIM. Can I still use my SIM Card after installing eSIM? Yes, you can still use your SIM card after installing the eSIM, in fact you can even use both cards simultaneously, your primary card for calls and message, and the eSIM for Internet.
- You transferred the eSIM's phone number to another iPhone.
- You're going to sell, trade in, or give away your device.
Getting a new phone number to make calls with an eSIM is not mandatory.
If you're using eSIM on a Google Pixel:
Go to “Settings” > “Network & Internet” > “Mobile networks,” select your Primary SIM, and make sure “Mobile data” and “Roaming” are OFF.
Depending on your eSIM's activation policy, it will either activate as soon as you install it or when you connect to a supported network at your destination. In both cases, you need to turn on your eSIM line and connect to a supported network to use your eSIM data.
